Before you start

  • Confirm the fan diameter, connector material, temperature and pressure rating, clamp type, and service-access requirements.
  • Align the fan and duct centerlines before installing the connector.
  • Inspect the sleeve, clamp surfaces, fan collar, and duct end for sharp edges or damage.
  • Verify both fan and duct have independent supports.

Tools and materials

Approved round flexible sleeve, clamps or bands, sealant where specified, independent fan and duct supports, level, tape, marker, edge protection, and hand tools.

Lay it out

  1. Establish one centerline through fan and duct.
  2. Set the connector length so it stays relaxed.
  3. Keep enough access for fan removal or service.

Set and support it

  1. Support the inline fan independently.
  2. Support the duct on both sides as required.
  3. Hold the collars concentric before fitting the sleeve.

Make the connection

    Slide the connector onto the first collar.

  2. 2

    Position the second collar without stretching or twisting the sleeve.

  3. 3

    Center the connector over both ends.

  4. 4

    Install and tighten the clamps evenly.

  5. 5

    Seal the connections where required.

  6. 6

    Check for inward collapse under the expected pressure condition.

  7. 7

    Verify the fan can still be serviced or removed.

Check the install

  • The connector is relaxed and concentric.
  • The sleeve does not collapse under negative pressure.
  • Clamps are secure and evenly seated.
  • The fan and duct remain independently supported.
  • Service access remains available.

Common mistakes

  • Using connector material not rated for the air or temperature.
  • Stretching the sleeve between misaligned collars.
  • Overtightening a clamp and cutting the connector.
  • Allowing the connector to support the fan.

Stop and ask

Stop if the connector material is not rated for the service, the fan and duct cannot align, or the sleeve collapses or carries load.
