Before you start
- Confirm louver size, sleeve, plenum dimensions, drainage path, flashing, weather seal, birdscreen, damper, and service access.
- Inspect the louver, sill, drain path, plenum, and perimeter opening.
- Verify the louver will not carry the plenum or duct weight.
- Coordinate wind-driven rain and exterior waterproofing details before installation.
Tools and materials
Louver, sleeve, plenum, approved flanged joint components, structure supports, flashing, weather sealant, air sealant, drainage components, level, tape, marker, and access hardware.
Lay it out
- Set the louver opening and plenum centerline.
- Plan drainage toward the exterior or approved collection point.
- Keep birdscreen, damper, and louver fasteners accessible.
Set and support it
- Support the louver and plenum according to their separate load paths.
- Support the downstream duct independently.
- Protect the drainage path from support interference.
Make the connection

Set and secure the louver and sleeve.

Install the independently supported plenum.

Connect the plenum to the louver or sleeve using the approved detail.

Connect the downstream duct.

Complete weather-side flashing and seal.

Complete air-side sealing.

Verify drainage, birdscreen, and damper access.
Check the install
- Water drains as intended.
- The louver carries no duct or plenum weight.
- Exterior weather seal and interior air seal are complete.
- Birdscreen and damper access remain usable.
- The plenum is square and supported.
Common mistakes
- Sealing without providing drainage.
- Hanging the plenum from the louver.
- Blocking the birdscreen or damper.
- Treating the weather side and air side as the same seal.
