Canvas flexible connector at AHU
Rectangular equipment connection
Before you start
- Confirm the AHU outlet or inlet dimensions, connector type, fabric rating, frame detail, neutral gap, and equipment service clearances.
- Verify the duct and equipment are independently supported and already aligned.
- Inspect the connector fabric, frames, corners, seams, and sharp edges before installation.
- Do not use the canvas connector to correct major offset, twist, or elevation error.
Tools and materials
Approved canvas flexible connector assembly, matching frame hardware, gasket or sealant where specified, fasteners, clamps, level, straightedge, independent duct supports, edge protection, and hand tools.
Lay it out
- Establish the equipment flange plane and duct flange plane.
- Set the neutral connector gap shown by the approved detail.
- Keep the connector clear of access doors, filters, coils, and service panels.
Set and support it
- Support the equipment and duct independently.
- Hold both flanges square and parallel.
- Remove sharp edges that could cut the fabric.
Make the connection
- 1
Set the duct flange to the equipment flange without using the connector to pull alignment.
- 2
Install the connector frame on one side.
- 3
Bring the opposite frame into position with the fabric relaxed.
- 4
Fasten both frames evenly.
- 5
Seal the frame connections as required.
- 6
Check the fabric for twist, stretch, inward fold, or contact with sharp metal.
- 7
Release temporary support and verify the connector carries no weight.
Check the install
- The fabric is relaxed and centered.
- The connector carries no duct or equipment weight.
- The frames are square, fastened, and sealed.
- No fold or wrinkle blocks the airflow path.
- Service access remains open.
Common mistakes
- Stretching the connector to make up a gap.
- Using the fabric to correct misalignment.
- Leaving a sharp frame edge against the canvas.
- Loading the connector with unsupported duct.
Stop and ask
Stop if the connector is being used to correct major misalignment, the fabric rating is unknown, the neutral gap is wrong, or either side lacks independent support.
