Round adjustable elbow
Variable turn
ConnectionAdjustable gore seams + slip ends
SupportBand/strap
Before you start
- Confirm the adjustable elbow can make the required angle without overextending the gore sections.
- Inspect every gore seam, slip end, and lock for damage.
- Set the intended plane and angle on the floor.
- Plan support so the fitting cannot rotate after installation.
Tools and materials
Round adjustable elbow, approved fasteners and sealant, angle finder or level, marker, hand seamer, band or strap supports, and standard round-duct tools.
Lay it out
- Measure the actual turn from the fixed centerlines.
- Mark the intended inlet, outlet, and elbow plane.
- Check clearance for every gore seam and downstream connection.
Set and support it
- Install supports near both sides of the elbow.
- Hold the fitting against rotation.
- Do not use the slip joint as the permanent support.
Make the connection
- 1
Rotate the gore sections evenly to the required angle on the floor.
- 2
Seat and inspect each gore overlap.
- 3
Mark the final angle and plane.
- 4
Connect the first slip end.
- 5
Rotate the fitting to the marked plane and connect the second end.
- 6
Fasten and seal the pipe joints and adjustable seams as required.
- 7
Load supports and verify the angle holds.
Check the install
- The elbow holds the intended angle.
- No gore seam is overextended or separated.
- The fitting remains in the intended plane.
- Both slip joints are fully seated.
- Supports prevent rotation.
Common mistakes
- Setting the angle overhead.
- Overextending a gore seam.
- Connecting one end before checking the plane.
- Leaving the fitting free to rotate.
Stop and ask
Stop if the elbow will not hold the angle, a gore seam separates, or the required turn exceeds the fitting's usable range.
