Before you start
- Confirm diffuser diameter, neck size, mounting ring, cone setting, ceiling type, branch support, and finished location.
- Inspect collar, mounting ring, cone, and fasteners.
- Verify the branch will not load the ceiling.
- Mark the exact center before cutting.
Tools and materials
Round ceiling diffuser, matching collar or boot, mounting ring, branch duct, fasteners, sealant, independent support, compass or template, and hand tools.
Lay it out
- Mark the exact center and opening diameter.
- Align the collar to the branch.
- Check clearance for the cone and mounting ring.
Set and support it
- Support the branch and collar independently.
- Install the mounting ring or backing.
- Keep the ceiling free of duct load.
Make the connection

Install and support the collar or boot.

Cut the centered ceiling opening.

Connect and seal the branch.

Install the mounting ring if required.

Screw or twist-lock the diffuser into place.

Set the cone position.

Verify the diffuser is secure and centered.
Check the install
- Diffuser is centered.
- Cone is secure.
- Neck size matches.
- Branch weight is independently supported.
- Ceiling is not distorted.
Common mistakes
- Cutting before checking neck size.
- Using the diffuser to support the branch.
- Installing without a mounting ring where required.
- Leaving the cone loose.
Stop and ask
Stop if the neck size or mounting ring mismatches, the branch is unsupported, or the opening cannot be centered.
