Before you start
- Confirm diffuser orientation, blank side, wall location, grid module, neck, and support.
- Inspect face and pattern controllers.
- Verify the blank side belongs toward the wall as shown.
- Coordinate branch route and ceiling elevation.
Tools and materials
Lay-in 3-way diffuser, boot, branch duct, sealant, fasteners, independent support, level, and hand tools.
Lay it out
- Locate diffuser relative to the wall.
- Mark the blank side.
- Align the neck to the branch.
Set and support it
- Support the boot from structure.
- Keep the grid unloaded.
- Support the branch near the neck.
Make the connection

Set and support the boot.
- 2
Connect and seal the branch.
- 3
Place the diffuser in the grid.
- 4
Rotate the blank side toward the wall.
- 5
Secure and level the face.
- 6
Verify the three throw directions.
Check the install
- Blank side faces the wall.
- Throws face occupied space.
- Face is level.
- Support is independent.
- Neck is sealed.
Common mistakes
- Installing the blank side away from the wall.
- Rotating the diffuser after branch connection and twisting the boot.
- Resting on the grid.
- Skipping final pattern check.
Stop and ask
Stop if diffuser orientation is not shown, the blank side is unclear, or the branch connection prevents correct clocking.
